PRAYAS Team Environment Wildlife Rescue Team saves a Marsh Crocodile

On 4th May 2007 at around 9.30 am, PRAYAS Team Environment Wildlife rescue team rescued a 4.5 ft long (16Kg) Marsh Crocodile from Chhaprabhatha Khadi of TAPI River near Amroli in Surat.

This crocodile was reported earlier immediately after floods in August 2006 at VALAK village khadi near Tapi River just ahead of Sarthana. But then the condition was adverse so the capturing of crocodile was not possible. Then it disappeared and after three months it was again reported from Chhapra Bhatha Khadi. After Two months rigorous efforts, PRAYAS Team Environment wildlife Rescue team captured the reptile safely and now it is being prepared to release back into its wild habitat as per the guidance of the DCF Shri Mukesh Kumar.

This operation was carried out by trained volunteers of the PRAYAS RESCUE TEAM to avoid man animal conflict and the team had success in preventing what could have been possible injuries to human or the crocodile had it been in conflict with the village people of Chhaprabhatha. The village people cooperated in a great manner in the whole operation. The operation was carried out with the expert guidance of PRAYAS Team’s wildlife expert Shri Karmaveer Bhatt.

The Rescue Team members are Shakti Pathak, Mehul Thakur, Tejas Padhya and Hemang Patel carried out this skillful operation.
